Museo Flaminio Bertoni

Poliedrico e geniale. La figura di Flaminio Bertoni rivive oggi all'interno delle sale del museo varesino che gli è stato dedicato. Al suo interno emerge il grande talento del celebre designer di automobili che fu anche artista, architetto, progettista, scultore e pittore. Inaugurato nel 2007 e nato dall'impegno del figlio Leonardo insieme ai membri dell'Associazione Internazionale Flaminio Bertoni, la Provincia di Varese e il liceo Artistico Frattini, il museo è stato riallestito nel 2009 proprio per valorizzare le capacità di Bertoni e in particolare la sua attività di progettista. Quando dunque nell’ottobre 1955, al Salone dell’automobile di Parigi, venne presentata la stupenda e rivoluzionaria DS, una delle icone assolute dell’automobilismo, nessuno immaginava che il tratto fosse opera di un italiano dalle visioni senza pari. Quella che condusse alla “Dea”, dotata delle inedite sospensioni idropneumatiche, prese le mosse dall’osservazione di un pesce: il suo profilo suggerì la forma, poi modellata e adattata alle esigenze di un veicolo. Tutto materiale valorizzato nel museo varesino a lui dedicato. Quanto alla collezione permanente, le opere che si possono ammirare provengono da archivi privati e in gran parte dall'atelier che l'artista aveva aperto ad Antony, nei dintorni di Parigi e dove visse gli ultimi anni della propria vita. Un patrimonio rimasto custodito e inviolato per oltre trent'anni dopo la morte di Bertoni. L'itinerario del museo permette di ammirare, oltre ai progetti, ai quadri e alle sculture, le vetture d'epoca che lo resero celebre in tutto il mondo e che sono capolavori e veri capisaldi della storia dell'auto. Proprio questo è il cuore del museo che offre al pubblico le sezioni dedicate alle autovetture progettate da Bertoni per la Citroën: la Traction Avant 11BL, la DS19, la 2 CV e la Ami 6 Berlina. Attorno a esse sono esposte le altre sculture e le opere pittoriche in modo tale da creare una cornice tematica con le auto.
Dal 2015 il museo Flaminio Bertoni è interamente ospitato a Volandia.

Ingenious and multifaceted. Today, the figure of Flaminio Bertoni lives again within the halls of the Varese-based museum bearing his name. The museum's exhibits celebrate the incredible talent of this famous automotive designer, who was also an artist, architect, sculptor and painter. Established in 2007 at the behest of his son Leonardo, together with members of the International Flaminio Bertoni Association, the Province of Varese and the Frattini School of the Arts, the museum was reorganized in 2009 in order to highlight Bertoni's incredible skills and, above all, his work as a designer. When the revolutionary DS, one of the absolute icons of the automotive world, was presented at the Paris Motor Show in October of 1955, no one could believe that it was the work of an Italian designer of unparalleled talent. This model drove like a "dream", featuring a state-of-the-art hydropneumatic suspension, the movements of which were developed by observing a fish: its profile, in fact, was even suggestive of the shape, but had been moulded and adapted to meet the requirements of a vehicle. All this and more can be found at the Varese museum dedicated to Bertoni himself. The permanent collection includes various works from private collections, as well as from the artist's own studio in Antony, on the outskirts of Paris, where he lived during the final years of his life. A heritage that remained curated and untouched for more than thirty years following the death of the artist himself. In addition to the various projects, paintings and sculptures, the museum's visitors can also admire the classic cars that made him famous worldwide, now considered to be true masterpieces and milestones in automotive history. This is the true heart of the museum, featuring sections dedicated to the vehicles designed for Citroën by Bertoni: including the 11BL Traction Avant, the DS19, the 2 CV and the Ami 6 Sedan. In order to create a thematic framework around the vehicles, the cars are surrounded by other works by the artist himself, including various sculptures and paintings.
