Museo Arte Plastica

Più di 50 opere realizzate negli anni ‘70 da artisti internazionali tra i più quotati del secondo dopoguerra tutte rigorosamente plasmate dalla plastica, che diventa materia duttile ed espressiva nelle mani di Carla Accardi ed Enrico Baj come in quelle, più tardi, di Giacomo Balla e Man Ray. È questo il cuore attorno al quale è cresciuta la attuale collezione del Museo Arte Plastica [MAP] di Castiglione Olona che conta oggi 65 opere e rappresenta il primo museo di arti applicate alla plastica nato in Italia. A dare il via alla attuale raccolta sono state proprio la cinquantina di opere raccolte dal “Polimero Arte”, un centro di ricerche estetiche e laboratorio all’avanguardia voluto a cavallo tra gli anni ‘60 e ‘70 dal Conte Castiglioni e dal cugino Franco Mazzucchelli, titolare dell’azienda leader in Italia nel settore della celluloide. Grazie alla collaborazione tra l’amministrazione Comunale di Castiglione Olona e la Mazzucchelli 1849 Spa, nel 2004 – anno di inaugurazione del museo - le opere sono state collocate nelle sale affrescate del quattrocentesco Palazzo dei Castiglioni di Monteruzzo di proprietà del Comune di Castiglione Olona, che offrono al visitatore una suggestiva cornice capace di racchiudere inediti e singolari pezzi di arte contemporanea tra le vestigia architettoniche del passato. Negli anni il continuo impegno del Comune con la supervisione del curatore e cofondatore del museo, il critico d’arte Rolando Bellini, ha fatto sì che trovassero qui collocazione nuove opere che hanno arricchito il nucleo centrale: vi si ammirano lavori di Vittore Frattini, Carlo Giuliano, Maria Teresa Illuminato, Marcello Morandini, Ornella Piluso e Giorgio Vicentini. Nel 2010 il MAP ha ottenuto il riconoscimento museale da parte della Regione Lombardia: l’obiettivo del Comune di Castiglione Olona è ora il recupero di ulteriori spazi che potranno portare alla creazione di laboratori per artisti, giovani e studenti sempre nell’ottica della valorizzazione della collaborazione tra pubblico e privato.

Over 50 works realized during the 1970s by international artists, including some of the most famous of the post war era, all made from moulded plastic: a material that became ductile and highly expressive when placed in the hands of Carla Accardi and Enrico Baj, as well as those of Giacomo Balla and Man Ray in later years. These works represent the core around which the current collection of the Plastic Art Museum [MAP] in Castiglione Olona grew. The museum, in fact, boasts the honour of being Italy's first museum of plastic art, and currently features a total of 65 artworks. The current collection, in fact, began with the fifty artworks collected by "Polymero Arte", an aesthetic research centre and avant-garde laboratory established during the 1960s and 1970s at the behest of Count Castiglioni and his cousin Franco Mazzucchelli, the owner of Italy's leading company operating in the celluloid industry. Thanks to the collaboration between the municipal administration of Castiglione Olona and Mazzucchelli 1849 S.p.A. in 2004 (the year of the museum's inauguration), the works found a home within the frescoed halls of the fifteenth century Palazzo dei Castiglioni Monteruzzo, owned by the Municipality of Castiglione Olona, thus offering visitors a picturesque setting in which to view new and unique pieces of contemporary art amongst the architectural vestiges of the past. Over the years, the Municipality's constant commitment, under the supervision of the museum's curator and co-founder, art critic Rolando Bellini, has allowed the collection to be enhanced with various new works as well, including pieces by Vittore Frattini, Carlo Giuliano, Maria Teresa Illuminato, Marcello Morandini, Ornella Piluso and Giorgio Vicentini. In 2010, the Plastic Art Museum was awarded museum status by the Region of Lombardy, and the Municipality of Castiglione Olona now aims to recover additional space in order to create workshops for artists, young people and students alike, with the goal of improving collaboration between the public and private sectors.
